Journey to Rwanda
“Think about it,” the name of the YouthAIDS funded youth centers in Rwanda, is one of our greatest success stories. Centre Dushishoze provides young people with a friendly and confidential environment where they can receive life-saving health peer education, products and services. Since opening in 2005, the three centers see over 4,500 youth per month.

YouthAIDS Global Ambassador Ashley Judd will visit Center Dushishoze during her journey to Rwanda in April to explore the innovative and effective strategies YouthAIDS/PSI employs to address the transmission of HIV. In Rwanda, more than a quarter of a million people are estimated to be living with HIV, women aged 15 - 24 have five times the HIV prevalence rate than men and there are 1.25 million orphans - one of the highest proportions of orphans in the world.

Ashley Judd Stumps With Bill, Calls HRC "Feminist"

"So I hope she's our good luck charm, and you'll win Texas for Hillary"...

Judd, clad in a summery red dress, briefly touted the New York senator's record, notably calling her "a feminist." Full Story

There was a bit of a hubub about the dress Ashley Judd wore last week during qualifying. It was a low-cut black dress with tulips on it that came below her knees. The actress wife of driver Dario Franchitti also wore some closed toed high-heels and a wide-brimmed black hat.

ESPN's David Newton posted this story last week on the brewing controversy.

The high-heels were fine, NASCAR just asks that toes be covered. But Judd's dress was a safety concern. NASCAR's dress code for garages and the pits requires long pants and sleeves on shirts.

Well, despite the fact that shots of Ashley Judd in a dress on TV during races might drive up NASCAR's sagging ratings, there will be no movie-start treatment for Judd here. NASCAR officials spoke to the team to make sure they knew the specifics of the dress code.

NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston sighed and leaned back in his chair when I asked about it.

"It's not a big deal," Poston said. "We're confident it won't be an issue."

It's that time of year again! Same style different series. The big sunglasses and floppy hat are back... in black!! The press is all over Ashley's track-side glamour. I think she is looking super hott, as always.

Ashley Judd just rewrote the NASCAR wives' stylebook, but she might need a little relief from the organization's rule book.

The actor and wife of Sprint Cup driver Dario Franchitti, who is beginning his first full season, strode pit road before Daytona 500 qualifying on Sunday in a knee-length black dress, black sun hat and heels. NASCAR rules require those in the garage or areas where cars drive to wear pants, but at least her shoes were closed-toe. sptimes.com

ON TV TONIGHT:
10 p.m. (HBO) "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel." Correspondent Mary Carillo profiles Indy 500 champion turned NASCAR driver Dario Franchitti, who is now preparing for the Daytona 500. Franchitti, by the way, is married to Ashley Judd.

...The new driver you'll hear most about early this season is Scotland's Dario Franchitti. If you're a fan of open wheel racing, you know Franchitti for his history of good work, work that includes a victory in last year's Indianapolis 500.

The media on Monday did not see Ashley Judd.

We did not hear about her either, at least not from her husband.

Franchitti, 34, is friendly as he addresses every subject about which he is asked. He's lean and dark, with close-cropped hair and narrow sideburns. Finally a reporter tells him fans will be curious about the races Judd will attend, and will she be at the Daytona 500?

It's a legitimate question. Although there is no river near Daytona International Speedway, some fans will be thrilled to share a track with racing's most famous wife.

Declining to use her to help promote Franchitti would be like the Charlotte Bobcats declining to use team executive Michael Jordan to promote the team.

Alas, Franchitti tells the reporter she should ask her questions to Ashley.

Be that way. Is there anybody in this hotel ballroom candid enough to talk about Judd?

Ah. Here's Felix Sabates, who is telling reporters that his organization's future drivers could come from Russia and China.

I ask Felix if, instead of talking about global domination, he will answer a tough journalistic question, and he says he will.

Felix, have you met Ashley Judd and, if so, what's she like?

Felix looks right. Felix looks left. Convinced that nobody else is listening, Felix cups his hands and whispers, "She's" and shouts, "HOT!"

Without cracking a smile, I asked Polly Judd about her granddaughter, Ashley.

"Now what does she do?" I asked, notepad and pen in hand, trying to look curious but bored.

"She's an actress," Polly Judd said, eyes lighting up at the chance to talk about one of her grandchildren. She does movies."

"Oh, really?" I answered, still with a straight face. "And where does she live?"

"Tennessee," the woman answered.

"And what's her phone number?"

Then I smiled. And she smiled, too.

Ashley Judd Gets Appendicitis While Shooting In A Hospital
Ashley survived a potentially fatal bout of appendicitis because she was filming in a hospital when she fell ill. The actress was shooting new movie "Helen" in Vancouver, Canada when an acute attack of the illness led to a collapse on set at Ridge Meadows Hospital on November 25.

Judd was immediately admitted to the same medical center and underwent emergency surgery to remove her diseased appendix.

A source tells the National Enquirer, "Luckily, the cast and crew were filming at a real hospital, so when paramedics arrived, they simply put Ashley on a stretcher and wheeled her into an operating room nearby."

While Judd recovers, production on Helen has been halted.

Judd talks about trip to India for documentary on AIDS prevention

Ashley Judd says education and prevention is the best way to combat AIDS and HIV, which disproportionately affect women and girls and prey upon the vulnerable and less fortunate.

Speaking about her new documentary film, "India's Hidden Plague," in an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC's "This Week," the actress said it costs just $10 to educate a person about the risks and protect them for an entire year.

The actress met HIV/AIDS orphans in India while making the film, including two sisters, ages 9 and 12, whose parents died in quick succession after their father infected their mother with the disease.

"It's very real and it's real stories and real heartache and also real opportunity to focus on a solution that is very cost effective and has an extraordinarily meaningful impact in the lives of young people," Judd said.

In a previous documentary film, "Confronting the Pandemic," Judd and actress Salma Hayek travelled to Central America to look at AIDS prevention there.

"India's Hidden Plague" is set to premiere Nov. 30 on the National Geographic Channel
