Bug, directed by William Friedkin from Tracy Letts’s play, has the feverish compression of live theater and the moody expansiveness of film. The mix is insanely powerful. Letts, also an actor, is a member of Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre by way of Oklahoma. He has a gift for bumping realism into surrealism with a well-placed nudge, for writing dialogue that drives his actors into each other’s faces (if not each other’s souls), and for picking up and distilling eerie signals from the heartland—anxieties that blossom into conspiracy theories, conspiracy theories that explode into delusions. The path toward conflagration is absurd, and inexorable... Roach Motel

Having secured her movie star status with a string of films — including "Kiss the Girls," "Double Jeopardy" and "High Crimes" — most often short-handed as "women in peril" pictures, Ashley Judd has more recently seemed to reach a certain armistice with Hollywood, acting less frequently in favor of spending more time on her charitable service work.
Which raises the question — applicable to the growing class of once-ubiquitous actresses of a certain age now appearing on-screen less often — does spending time not acting change the process of acting...

Ashley Judd Tells Cinematical She's In Talks for Wayne Wang Film
"W
ayne Wang and I are talking about doing something together again, which I'm looking forward to." Wang directed Judd in 1995's Smoke, and the project she's referring to, I'm guessing, is Wang's upcoming romantic comedy Good Cook, Likes Music, about a slacker who sends away for a mail order bride and gets some life-changing woman of his dreams, or something like that. Sounds like Judd alley, no?
Judd also confirmed that she'll be appearing in Crossing Over, and had this to say about the project: "I'm getting ready to work with a guy called Wayne Kramer, and I'm really excited about that. He's a South African who immigrated to the United States a while ago, well over a decade ago I believe, perhaps longer. He's directing a script he wrote called Crossing Over, which looks at immigration issues, and I'm looking forward to that. He's put together an amazing cast. My scenes will be with Ray Liotta and a young African girl whom I've not met yet -- I'm looking forward to that.

Ashley's Graduation Day!
The 39-year-old actress received a bachelor's degree in French, but it wasn't clear whether she attended any of Sunday's graduation ceremonies, U.K. spokesman Jay Blanton told the Lexington Herald-Leader for a story on its website.
Judd attended the university from 1986 to 1990, but left one course shy of graduation.
Blanton said student confidentiality laws prevented him from saying how she finally received her degree.
In an interview last year, Judd told the newspaper that she would probably take a correspondence course to finish the one class necessary to get a degree. When she left in 1990, online and correspondence courses weren't allowed to count toward graduation.
